Proactive Health Risk Detection for Safer Maritime Operations

At Vidya Medika, we go beyond standard medical check-ups. Our commitment to maritime and offshore safety includes early detection of serious health risks and exposure-related medical conditions — helping protect lives and ensuring operational readiness at sea.

Preventing the Leading Causes of Death at Sea

According to the UK Coastguard Agency (2010), heart attacks and strokes remain the leading causes of death and cases of permanent medical unfitness at sea. At Vidya Medika, we use evidence-based medical screening to:

  • Identify crew members at high risk for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events
  • Offer preventive guidance and early interventions to reduce health risks before deployment

Specialized Health Risk Assessments for Chemical & Bulk Carrier Crews

Our clinic also conducts occupational health evaluations specific to work environments onboard chemical tankers and bulk carriers:

For IMO Type 1 & 2 Chemical Tanker Crews:

We assess the long-term health impact of exposure to:

  • BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene)
  • VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
  • Other hazardous and toxic chemical substances
Our assessments aim to detect early signs of toxic exposure that could lead to chronic illness or impaired fitness for duty.

For Bulk Carrier Crews:

We evaluate lung function and respiratory health due to prolonged exposure to airborne dust from:

  • Coal, Cement, Sand, Bauxite, Grains, and other cargo
  • Organic and inorganic dust particles
These screenings help detect and prevent chronic respiratory conditions caused by cumulative occupational exposure.
