At Vidya Medika, we provide a range of specialized assessments and preventive health services to ensure your crew is fully fit—physically, mentally, and occupationally—for life and work at sea or in offshore environments.

1. Cardio-Fitness Assessment

We use the Bruce Protocol Treadmill Stress Test to evaluate cardiovascular fitness and endurance, especially for high-risk or safety-critical positions.

2. Chemical Exposure Health Assessment

We assess the long-term health effects of exposure to hazardous substances, including:

  • BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene)
  • VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
  • Other hazardous-toxic chemicals
    Target group: Crew members on IMO Type 1 & 2 chemical tankers.

3. Lung Function Testing for Dust Exposure

We conduct lung capacity testing to monitor the impact of airborne dust exposure from materials such as:

  • Coal, Cement, Sand, Bauxite, and Grains
    Target group: Crew onboard bulk carriers.

4. Intraocular Pressure Assessment

Screening for glaucoma and other eye conditions to ensure safe visual function in maritime and offshore environments.

5. Mental Health Evaluations

We offer psychological assessments using internationally recognized tools:

  • MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory)
  • WHO SRQ-29 (Self-Reporting Questionnaire)
  • DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety & Stress Scale)

These help identify potential mental health concerns that may affect job performance or safety.

6. Phobia Screening

Assessment for:

  • Acrophobia – fear of heights
  • Claustrophobia – fear of confined or enclosed spaces
    Important for workers operating at heights or in enclosed environments such as tanks, lifts, or vessels.

7. Drug & Alcohol Testing

Substance abuse—including narcotics, psychotropics, tranquilizers, or alcohol—can severely compromise safety at sea. We conduct certified testing to ensure compliance with maritime regulations and company standards.

8. Vaccination Services

We maintain an essential vaccine stock for crew based on destination, role, and exposure risk:

  • Yellow Fever
    • Required for Seafarers, Fishers, and Offshore-Energies Crew sailing to Sub-Saharan Africa or Central America
    • In line with International Health Regulations (2005)
  • Influenza, MMR, and Varicella
    • For cruise ship crew, especially those in Youth or Passenger Services
  • Hepatitis A & Typhoid Fever
    • For food handling personnel, land- or sea-based
  • Tetanus
    • For marine construction workers exposed to metal, debris, or high-injury environments
